Free time is fun time at Rainbow Acres! Our resident Ranchers enjoy plenty of free time on the ranch to socialize with one another, participate in activities and games, or explore their own special interests. With many indoor and outdoor options available every day, Ranchers always have friends to be with, favorite activities to look forward to and many new experiences to try.
Located at the center of the Rainbow Acres campus, the Palmer Community Center provides the perfect indoor venue where Ranchers enjoy lunchtime meals, dances, talent shows, assemblies, movie time, bingo, plays, performances and special events.
Ranchers often head to the Daehler Building to connect with friends and enjoy time together. Here they can play pool, ping-pong, air hockey, board games and arcade games or just settle into couches around the large-screen TV for sports games or other programming.
Amenities include an outdoor basketball court, exercise stations, walking/biking paths and a field area for athletic pursuits such as pick-up games and practice sessions for Ranchers who compete in Special Olympics. In addition, Rainbow Acres has a family-size swimming pool that’s made available for use during the summer months by Ranchers and their caregivers.
Interacting with Volunteer Groups
Mission groups and volunteers frequently come to Rainbow Acres and bring their own brand of sparkle to the ranch. Volunteer groups engage Ranchers in all types of special group activities – craft-making, dances, games, barbecues, ice cream socials, worship events – all combined with lots of personal interactions.
Major holidays are celebrated in the traditional way and integrated into the ranch experience – eating holiday-themed food, singing songs, doing crafts and enjoying the spirit. Some examples include the Valentine’s Day dance, St. Patrick’s Day corned beef and cabbage meal, Easter egg hunt, 4th of July barbecue, Thanksgiving dinner, and many Christmas celebrations, including a visit from Santa Claus.
